Manchester United finally confirm the signing of Lisandro Martinez
The Argentinian’s arrival comes hot on the heels of confirmation that Christian Eriksen has officially chosen to use the second chance at life that God gave him by playing for the Red Devils.

Martinez’s move, however, is the one that has gotten United fans all perky again, as it takes them one step further away from having to watch Harry Maguire in their starting XI.
United are understood to have paid Ajax Amsterdam an initial €57.37m (S$80.65m) for Martinez, with an additional €10m in add-ons agreed between the two clubs, as Erik ten Hag continues his mission to bring the old band from Ajax back together again for a reunion tour in Manchester.
The 24-year-old agreed to sign a five-year contract, with an option of another 12 months, and has already joined up with is new teammates at United’s Carrington training base.
Martinez – voted Ajax’s player of last season – was reportedly also a target for Arsenal, but the Gunners were unwilling to match the price that United were willing to pay for the versatile defender.

And unlike United’s main transfer target this summer, Frenkie de Jong, Martinez is actually quite happy to have joined the Old Trafford outfit.
“It's an honour to join this great football club. I've worked so hard to get to this moment and now that I'm here I'm going to push myself even further,” Martinez declared.
“I've been lucky enough to be part of successful teams in my career and that's what I want to continue at Manchester United. There will be a lot of work to get to that moment, but I firmly believe that under this manager and coaches, and together with my new teammates, we can do it.
“I want to thank Ajax and their fans for all the support they gave me. I had an unbelievable time there but feel the moment is right to test myself in another environment. Now I am at the perfect club to do that.”

United’s Football Director, John Murtough, also hailed the arrival of Martinez as a huge step forward in the club’s drive towards success.
“Lisandro is an outstanding player who will bring further quality and experience to Erik's squad,” said Murtough. “We are delighted that he has chosen to join Manchester United, and we are looking forward to seeing him develop further and help the team achieve the success we are aiming for.”
